The 1820 House has the Best location.

Located in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut, just over two hours from Boston and New York.  We are right between Litchfield and Bantam and surrounded by the largest nature and wildlife sanctuary in the state: White Memorial.  There are miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

The Housatonic River has flyfishing and whitewater rafting, and close to the house is Connecticut’s largest natural lake, Bantam Lake.  The Northwest Hills is also home to many Vineyards.  And last but not least the Connecticut village of Litchfield is a great destination.  It has year-round local events, theater, arts, and antiques.

With that said these are some of our local favorites...

Snow Skiing at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT is like stepping back in time.  A prefect family size Ski Hill with a vintage Lodge. Pull out of the driveway and drive north on Maple Street about 15 minutes and hit the slopes.

Need Pumpkins? Again pull out of the driveway and drive north about 3 minutes and arrive at Bunnell Farm.  Take a hay ride and grab a pumpkin.

Visit the Historic town of Litchfield.  It has great shoppes surrounding a wonderfully preserved Village Green.  In the summer Concerts on Wednesday Nights.  But there are many towns in the area worth driving to...Kent and Salisbury to name a couple.

Visit Bantam Lake and Fish and Kayak or take a dip at Sandy Beach.  Very close to the house. You can rent equipment at Sportsman's in Bantam.

These are some of our favorites......

Patty's Restaurant:  Love this Litchfield Breakfast place.  Eat there every morning if we could.

The Village Restaurant: A Casual Pub atmosphere located in the Litchfield town.   Really good comfort food.  Great spot on a cold winter night.

Arethusa Dairy and Restaurant:  This is a farm to table Dinner place.  They are located in the old firehouse in Bantam and have an Ice Cream shoppe there.  Yummy!

@ the Corner: In Litchfield town and has the Best food.  Love the chowder!!!!!

West Street Grill:  Fancy night out for Dinner in Litchfield. But worth the effort of getting dressed up.

West Shore Seafood: This is a Dinner place in Bantam.  It's BYOB and has the best Lobster rolls.  You order in a small building and sit at picnic tables in a field. Beautiful sunsets.

Woodspit Barbecue and Mexican:  In Bantam. Casual and Yummy.

Bohemian Pizza: Don't let the outside scare you away from the Litchfield pizza spot.  It's Rustic and "Bohemian" a  great Casual Lunch & Dinner place.

Popeys:  This is a Rustic Lunch & Ice Cream.  Located in Morris on the other side of Bantam lake.  Good burger and shake spot.

Need to pick up some food?

Bantam Market:  A privately owned shop that carries similar goods as Whole Foods.

Bantam Bread Company: Great Bread, but get there early and order a "Dirt Bomb".....It's a must.

Stop and Shop: Located in Litchfield has everything you would need.

A Must Visit is a Great Farmers Market

The Morris Marketplace is not your typical farmers’ market. It’s a place for family and friends to relax and enjoy a real working farm and embrace the area’s best local farmers, foodies, artisans, chefs, and musicians. Connecticut Magazine lists the Marketplace as “…one of the state’s most intriguing farmers’ markets.” Not to be missed are the most amazing grilled dishes for lunch at The Marketplace Grill run by Chef Chris Eddy.

White Memorial

Where to find Fun...

The house has a kitchen that is equipped for you to cook while you are visiting but there are many good restaurants to try during your visit....
